After the scores were locked at 8 all after the specified time allowed to complete the final had elapsed, a 6 red-ball shootout decided the eventual champion. Campbell’s cue ball resume going into the event, indicated he would be one of the players to beat and his performance over the weekend justified the result. Originally from Adelaide, Campbell dominated the Junior state ranks which ultimately lead him to represent Australia as a Junior. Campbell then switched his game over to the American table where he racked up over a dozen Australian titles in 9 Ball, 10 Ball and American Pool, before switching to Chinese 8 Ball a few years ago, playing on the professional tour before settling in the Goldfields a few years ago. While disappointed in defeat, Anglesey’s performance over the weekend justified his status as one of the leading 8 Ball players in the state, which has seen him win 2 WA State Titles, National Plate Title and a National Doubles Title.- Making up the top 4 were Adrian Lancaster and Ron Kelly who have both represented Australia on numerous occasions. The Consolation Plate was taken out by Jeff Delbridge who defeated former Goldfielder and Trolley Boy team-mate John Grazziadelli in the final. Making up the top 4 were local players Jason Dimer and Jeff Sharrett.

GOLDFLDS: GRAND TROLLEY BOYS REIGN SUPREME29-Feb-2024
The Grand Trolley Boys re-affirmed their status as the yard stick of Goldfields 8 Ball after trouncing the Country Club Cobra’s in last weeks Summer Grand Final on the way to winning their 5th consecutive Summer Flag. After having taken all before them in recent seasons including the 2022 Winter premiership in amongst a handful of summer flags, the Trolley Boys bubble was broken in last seasons winter grand final by the Country Club Cobra’s who proved superior on the day to take home the flag. But the Trolley Boy’s winter hiccup was quickly forgotten as they peeled off the first 7 games in quick time, before cruising to a 9-2 victory and once again claim their status as Kings of the Summer Jungle. While it wasn’t their day, the Cobra’s, lead by former World Champion Jack Halligan, were superb all season in dropping only the one match going into the final and with the majority of the squad expected to again grace the felt in the upcoming winter season, they once again are expected to be one of the leading contenders. The Association will now take a short break before the winter season commences in early April after Easter. GOLDFLDS: SUMMER 8 BALL GRAND FINAL TODAY24-Feb-2024
Standing room only is expected this afternoon at the Grand Boulder when the Summer 8 Ball Grand Final is decided between the Grand Trolley Boys and the Country Club Cobra’s as they go head to head in a replay of last Winters 1st Division Grand Final. Both sides won last Thursday night's prelim finals with the Trolley Boys securing a hard fought victory over Grand Suns while the Cobra's barely raised a sweat in taking care of the Tower Jokers On paper Today's clash looks an interesting affair. The Trolley Boys have become Kings of the Jungle over the summer months of late as they aim for their 5th consecutive Summer Flag, while the Cobra’s will be looking at a Winter / Summer Premiership double. The Trolley Boys only defeat over the Summer was back in round 2 against the Jokers, while an undermanned Cobra's defeat was at the hands of the Trolley Boys. With a smorgasbord of talent representing both teams, picking a winner would be simply a guess, with most experts predicting this to go down to the wire. The Grand Final is scheduled for a 4pm start with the presentation of trophies to be held after the final. Grand Final Grand Trolley Boys v Country Club Cobras
GOLDFLDS: GRAND FINAL SPOTS UP FOR GRABS22-Feb-2024
A spot in Saturdays Summer 8 Ball Grand final is up for grabs tonight when both prelim finals are conducted. The top 4 sides at the completion of the home and away season will battle it out in search of premiership glory after the Grand Suns and Tower Jokers ended both the Country Club Ballers and Workers Club Wildcards summer campaigns respectively. In tonight’s first of the two finals, minor premiers the Grand Trolley Boys will square off against the Grand Suns in a Boulder Derby that has all the ingredients of a classic. The Trolley Boys once again were the yardstick of the competition on the back of a 9-1 win / loss ration while the Suns occupied the top 4 the entire season finishing with an impressive 8-2 season. When the teams met back in round 4, the Trolley Boys controlled the night winning 11-6. While most 8 Ball critics expect this to be a lot closer, judging on the Suns overall season, the extra incentive of trying to win their 5th consecutive Summer flag, may just be enough to see the Trolley Boys advance to Saturdays big dance. The Country Club Cobra’s and Tower Jokers looks an intriguing game on paper. The Cobra’s season was also extremely hard to fault, with their only defeat coming at the hands of the Trolley Boys, when they were undermanned, while the Tower Hotel’s season had more highs than lows finishing with a 7-3 win / loss ratio. When the teams met prior to Christmas, the Cobra’s came out with plenty of venom in dismantling the Jokers 13-4. While a similar scoreline is unlikely, it would be a brave man to tip against a Cobra’s outfit littered with big game players. Saturdays Grand Final is set to commence at 4pm followed by the presentation of awards. Grand Trolley Boys v Grand Suns Country Club Cobra’s v Tower Jokers
GOLDFLDS: SUMMER 8 BALL FINALS CONTINUE TONIGHT15-Feb-2024
The Goldfields 8 Ball Associations Summer Season steps up another clog tonight when the 2nd round of finals are played. In last weeks opening round, top sides the Grand Trolley Boys and Country Club Cobra’s earned themselves a weeks rest when they proved too strong for the Tower Jokers and Grand Suns respectively in the double chance finals while it was curtains for the Workers Club Wolves and Grand Ninja’s as the Country Club Ballers and Workers Club Wildcards extended their seasons into tonight. In tonight’s Qualifying finals, the Grand Suns will put it all on the line when they host the Country Club Ballers. While going down to a slick Cobra’s outfit last week, the Suns season overall has been far superior to the Ballers, highlighted by their 12-5 win back in round 2 and while a tight tussle is expected, the Suns extra depth may just swing the result it in their favour. In the 2nd Qualifying final, the Tower Hotel will put last week’s below par performance behind them and focus in on the Workers Club Wildcards. By their season’s standard, the Tower never really got going last week while the Wildcards late season form continued when they won a thriller. The two teams clashed in the opening match of the season with the Tower winning in a decisive matter and while the Wildcards will fancy their chances of reversing the earlier result, the Jokers should be able to win enough games to advance into next week’s prelim finals The Grand Final and presentation night is scheduled for Saturday 24th February.
GOLDFLDS: DOUBLE THE FUN FOR HUTCHINGS AND WEEKLEY10-Feb-2024
There were high fives galore last Saturday night at the Grand Boulder as Trolley Boy team mates Brendon Hutchings and Grant Weekley secured their first title as a duo, after defeating Shane Alan and Dean Curry in the final of the Goldfields 8 Ball Associations Scotch Doubles. While Weekley’s resume includes a win in the Australian Masters Singles, for Hutchings, it was his first notch on his 8 Ball resume and due reward on the back of a huge improvement over the last 12 months. Alan and Curry showed their class throughout the afternoon by going through the double elimination format undefeated, only to just fall short. In what could be a huge couple of weeks for the Trolley Boy’s, their dominance of the event was evidenced, with the top 4 being made up of team mates Ely Granole and Ariel Ambos while last year’s winners Jake Conduit and Brody Conroy filled the other top 4 finish. All focus now turns to the top 8 sides after the home and away season, with tonight seeing the opening round of the finals series. A lot of focus will centre around minor premiers the Grand Trolley Boys as they strive for their 5th consecutive summer flag, while the Country Club Cobra’s will be eyeing off a Winter / Summer double after finishing the season in 2nd place. GOLDFLDS: 8 BALL GRAND FINAL SPOTS UP FOR GRABS24-Aug-2023
Grand Final spots are up for grabs tonight when the Goldfields 8 Ball Association conducts the Prelim Finals for both the 1st and 2nd Division. In last weeks 1st Division 2nd Semi Final, the Country Club Cobra’s booked their ticket for Saturday’s big dance when they defeated reigning premiers the Grand Trolley Boys. After Jumping to an early lead, the Cobra’s were always in control and will head into Saturday’s final as warm favourites. while the Grand Masters season came to an abrupt end when they were no match for the Star and Garter Pirates. In 2nd Division finals last week, the Grand Plan bounced back from their only defeat of the season the previous week to progress straight into Saturdays Grand Final with a clinical display over the Workers Club Wolves while the Country Club Ballers made light work of the Tower Titans in the knock-out final. In tonight’s 1st Division Prelim Final, the Grand trolley Boys will put it all on the line when clash with the Star and Garter Pirates with a Grand Final spot the reward for the winner. The Trolley Boys have taken all before them in recent times including winning last years Winter final on the back of the last 4 Summer Flags while the Star and Garter have been a remarkable story on the back of their first season in the top Division. While most experts expect this to be a close call, the Trolley Boys 4-0 win / loss record this season against the Pirates and the extra incentive of back to back premierships might just be enough to see them head into Saturday’s Grand Final. Like the Trolley Boys, the Wolves also find themselves in unfamiliar territory playing on Prelim night and won’t have things easy when they host the Country Club Ballers. With their home and away clash ending with a 9-8 win to the Wolves, another close match is expected but the Wolves previous experience in big game finals should see them progress into Saturday. The 1st Division Grand Final is scheduled to commence at 3.30pm with the 2nd Division starting at 4pm. The presentation of trophies will commence after the finals have been concluded. 1st Division Grand Trolley Boys v Star and Garter Pirates 2md Division Workers Club Wolves v Country Club Ballers
GOLDFLDS: 1st DIVISION 8 BALL FINALS SET TO COMMENCE18-Aug-2023
With the home and away season completed, 4 sides remain in the hunt to secure the ultimate prize of 8Ball Champions. With the 2nd Division having started their finals campaign last week, tonight sees the opening round for the 1st Division. An automatic entry into Saturday weeks Grand Final is up for grabs tonight when Minor and Defending Premiers the Grand Trolley Boys host the Country Club Cobra’s. The Grand Trolley Boys have swept all before them of late that not only sees them as the defending winter premiers, but also having won the last 4 summer flags along the way. The Country Club Cobra’s under the guidance of Jack Halligan, are coming off an imposing home and away season that saw them finish with a 15-3 win / loss record albeit 2 of their 3 losses were against the Trolley Boys. With luck more than likely determining the outcome, the Trolley Boys impeccable record in previous finals may be enough to secure the win. The Grand Masters clash with the Star and Garter Pirates in the 1st Semi Final. The Masters form was solid all winter while the Pirates have made the finals in their first season after having won last season’s 2nd Division final. In the 2nd Division 2nd Semi Final, Minor Premiers the Grand Plan host the Workers Club Wolves for a spot in the Grand Final. The Grand Plans only defeat of the season was in the last qualifying game of the year against the Wolves. While the Wolves will take some confidence out of the win, most experts believe it was only a minor hiccup for the Plan in what has been an outstanding season to date and should be able to advance directly to Saturday weeks big dance. In the 1st Semi Final knock-out, the Tower Titans get another chance to keep their season alive when they lock horns with the Country Club Ballers. With their 2 clashes during the season resulting in one victory each, most expect a close encounter with maybe the Titans superior season being enough to see them extend their season into next week. The Grand Final will be held on Saturday 26th August at 3.30pm for the 1st Division and 4pm for the 2nd Division followed by the trophy presentation.
GOLDFLDS: CIGLER 8 BALL CHAMPION03-Aug-2023
Keenan Cigler reaffirmed his standing as one of the region’s elite 8 Ball players after taking out the Goldfields 8 Ball’s Open Singles last weekend. Cigler who also lifted the trophy back in 2018, was faultless all day on the way to defeating 8 ball legend and former 2 time world champion Jack Halligan in the final. In the first of tonight’s elimination finals, the Incredibles will look to bounce back from their shock loss when they host a dangerous Grand Suns outfit. While the Incredibles suffered a slight hiccup last week, the Suns could not have been more impressive In making light work of the Burrs last week, On saying that, it would be a brave man to select against the Incredibles and while the Suns will fancy their chances, the Incredibles big game players should bounce back to set-up a mouth watering semi final next week against the Trolley Boys, In the 2nd final, the Star and Garter Pirates will be visited by the Tower Jokers in a match that has all the ingredients of a classic. GOLDFLDS: SUMMER 8 BALL FINALS SET TO COMMENCE09-Feb-2023
The intensity in local 8 Ball action is expected to be stepped up tonight when the opening round of finals are played. While the main focus will centre around the top 8 sides, the bottom 8 sides after last weeks completion of the home and away season, will also hold a finals series within. In the first of the Double chance finals, minor premiers the Workers Club Incredibles will lock horns with stablemates the Workers Club Wolves. The Incredibles have been the stand-out side all Summer while the Wolves 11-4 win / loss ratio shows they will be here to play. But while the Wolves may make a game of it, the Incredibles superior depth should see them earn themselves a week’s. A lot of interest will also be on the other double chance final when 3 times defending Summer premiers the Grand Trolley boys step out against the 3rd placed Star and Garter Pirates. Interestingly both of these sides have come off Winter flags after the Trolley Boys and Pirates were successful in the 1st and 2nd Division respectively. Based on this, the standard of competition is expected to be high, but with their recent history finals being exemplary, the Trolley Boys should be able to grind out a victory. In the first of the elimination finals, 5th placed Grand Suns will host the 8th placed Country Club Burrs. The Suns were the big improvers in the New Year and all for a few results going their way last week, they could easily have finished in the top 4. On the other hand the Burrs season has been marred with inconsistency and the Suns should extend their season by at least another week. In the final elimination match, the Tower Jokers and Main Reef Sharks will lock horns. The Tower’s record over the journey in Summer Pool has always stood up, highlighted by their flag back in 2013 while the Sharks have been one of the success stories of the summer initially spending quite some time in the top 4. While most experts expect this match to go down to the wire, the Towers record in finals should see them also progress. Results and coverage of the bottom end finals will be covered from the last 4 teams onwards The Grand final is scheduled for Saturday 25th Feb.

GOLDFLDS: DIMER DOMINATION IN 8 BALL SINGLES22-Dec-2022
Neil J Dimer’s victory over Dan Sinclair in last weekend’s Dax Wasley Closed singles created some family history when he joined his older brother Jasely ( 2018 ) and father Jason ( 2014 ) as winners of the same event. For Dimer, Saturdays polished display was on the back of his recent trip to Ireland where we represented Australia as Vice Captain in the u/20 8 Ball World Titles. Despite finishing in 2nd position, Sinclair’s performance throughout the day justified his position within the regions top echelon of players. Making up the top 4 were Grant Weekly and Jake Persello. Meanwhile in local competition, the Workers Club Incredibles head into the Christmas break as the team to beat in the New year on the back of a 9-1 win / loss ratio while the Grand Trolley Boy’s pursuit of a 4th consecutive title still seems realistic with their 2nd position on the ladder. With only 2 wins separating the 5th placed Wolves and the 12th placed Burrs, many different scenarios and questions will loom and be answered in the final 5 rounds of the season. 8 Ball now takes a Christmas Break with matches set to commence on the 12th January with the Grand Final scheduled for the 25th February.

The Grand Trolley Boys assault on a 4th consecutive Summer Premiership has got off to a perfect start with them being the only undefeated team after the opening 3 rounds of matches. GOLDFLDS: 8 BALL ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE15-Oct-2022
The current depth and quality of the local 8 Ball players within the Goldfields region has been further acknowledged with 5 local players currently representing Australia in both Ireland and France. Dax Wasley, Neil J Dimer and Lockie Smith will be representing Australia in the 8 Ball World Championships in Killarney Ireland while Brody Conroy and Grant Weekly will be wearing the Australian Colours in Albi France when the World Championships of Black Ball is played. Black Ball is a slight variance to the standard 8 Ball game based around a different set of Rules Wasley last represented Australia back in 2013 in Blackpool England. He was also selected in 2015 and 2016 but didn’t travel with the team at that time. Prior to COVID putting a hold on the National Titles, Wasley was the WA State Captain and has previously also represented both SA and NSW at the National level. Neil J Dimer is another player that will relish the opportunity to again represent Australian when we plays in the u/20 side in which he has been named vice captain. Dimer last wore the Australian Colours back in 2018 in England when he played in the World Masters Singles. Dimer is a previous winner of the u/18 Australian Singles and 2 years ago made the Open WA Men’s State Side only to see Covid forcing the Championships to be cancelled. For Smith, who will play alongside Dimer, it will be his first time in the Green and Gold. But having already represented the State in the u/16’s National’s, Smiths steady head under pressure is expected to hold him in good stead throughout the championships. For Conroy, this will be his third Black Ball World Championships after having previously played in England and Cyprus. Conroy has also been named in the WA State Team that will be playing in the National Titles in Albury NSW later in the year. Weekly also gets another opportunity at the highest level having already represented Australia in 2018 and 2019 alongside Conroy Prior to Covid, Weekley took out the prestigious Australian Masters Black Ball title and has been a regular inclusion in both State and National 8 Ball Teams for a period of time. 8 Ball President Jeff Delbridge was elated with the selection of all the players. “ When you really think about it, it’s an amazing achievement to have 5 players out of the Goldfields that are all representing Australia at a World Level at the same time. GOLDFLDS: GRAND TROLLEY BOYS 8 BALL CHAMPIONS20-Aug-2022
The Grand Trolley Boys did their status as being the Goldfields 8 Ball Association’s leading 8 Ball team no harm after defeating the Workers Club Young Guns 13-7 in last weekend’s 1st Division 8Ball Grand Final. Coming off a 3rd consecutive Summer Premiership, the Trolley Boys jumped to an early 4-1 lead and were never seriously challenged on the way to lifting the Winter Cup for the first time since 2019. While having to settle for the runner’s up mantle, the Workers Club’s home and away domination of the division should ensure they will be one of the sides to beat in the upcoming Summer Season. The Star and Garter Pirates celebrated long into the night after claiming the 2nd Division Premiership defeating minor Premiers the Workers Club Bridesmaids 9-3 in a one sided final After scores were locked together at 3 all, the Star and Garter stepped it up a gear reeling off the next 6 games to end a 22 year 2nd Division drought. Along with many other accolades that were handed out at the trophy presentation, one of the highlights of the night was the presentation of the Halligan Medal to Keenan Cigler who was the Associations MVP for the winter season. The award honours the contribution the Halligan family have had on 8 Ball not only in the Goldfields and Australia, but also world-wild. 8 Ball now goes in recess for a few months with the popular Summer 8 Ball season set to commence in Mid-October.
GOLDFLDS: 8 BALL GRAND FINALS TODAY13-Aug-2022
All 8 Ball roads will lead to the Grand Boulder this afternoon when the Goldfields 8 Ball Association hosts it’s winter Grand Finals. In first Division action, the Grand Trolley Boys earnt themselves a spot in today’s big game against the Workers Club after a hard fought 13-10 win over the Grand Suns on Thursday night. Heading into today’s final, the two best sides all season will clash in a match that on paper looks evenly matched. While the Workers Club have owned the Trolley Boys winning 4 of their 5 clashes this season, the gap between the two sides has narrowed as the season has progressed with many experts believing the final may go the distance. While the Trolley Boys will enter the final knowing when they last played the Workers in the final they won a last game classic, the Workers Club more consistent season may be the difference and are expected to make it back to back Premierships. In the second Division, minor premiers the Workers Club Bridesmaids and Star and Garter Pirates will lock horns after both sides progressed after having one sided Wins against the Grand Grandie’s and Gala Goblins respectively. The Workers Club were the dominant side all season dropping only 2 matches while the Star and Garter were also impressive in the home and away season finishing 3rd. When the two sides met twice during the season, the Workers Club were successful on both occasions and having the extra motivation to reverse last season’s Grand Final loss, the minor premiers should be able to win enough games to make it a grand day for the Workers Club. Both finals are set to commence at 3.30pm sharp with the presentation to follow.
GOLDFLDS: PERSELLO / CONROY MIXED 8 BALL DOUBLES CHAMPIONS11-Aug-2022
Megan Persello and Brody Conroy were crowned Mixed Doubles champions last weekend and in doing so defended last years victory when they defeated Jayde Baird and Jason Dimer in the final. In what was the last major event of the year, making up the top 4 was Chelsie and Brad Smith and the pairing of Sandy Gates and Wayne Daykin. Meanwhile Grand Final spots are up for grabs tonight the both the 1st and 2nd Division Semi-finals are played. In 1st Division action, premiership favourites the Workers Club Young Guns justified that status with a come from behind 2nd semi-final victory against the Grand Trolley Boys while Grand Suns ended the Voodoo’s season with an emphatic 1st Semi Final win. Tonight’s Prelim final has all the makings of a classic when Stable-mates the Grand Trolley Boys and the Grand Suns clash with an invitation to Saturday’s big dance on offer to the winner. The Trolley Boys were clearly the second best side during the home and away season while the Suns season was more up and down. In the 4 clashes during the season, the Trolley Boys prevailed on each occasion. While the Suns back half of the season has seen them produce their most consistent form, the Trolley Boys finals record in recent seasons shows their ability to lift at the right time and most 8ball experts expect them to be back on the table Saturday afternoon with a cue in hand. In the first of the 2nd Division finals, minor premiers the Workers Club Bridesmaids will put their season on the line when they host the Grand Grandies who bounced back last week knocking out the Grand Plan. While the Bridesmaids position as minor premiers was a shock to no one, the Grandies effort of finishing 2nd was one of the success stories of the season. While the Grand will be hoping momentum may inspire the troops to continue the fairy-tail, it would be a brave man to select against the Workers Club. In the final finals match, the Star and Garter Pirates will lock horns with the Gala Gobins who ended defending premiers the Gala Warriors season. After the completion of the domestic season, the Star and Garter finished in 3rd position while the Goblins ended up 5th. The Pirates will have in the back of their mind last seasons disappointing finals campaign while the Gobins will have some inner belief having won both times they have met. Picking a winner here is a complete guess, but with the knowledge of having the upper hand during the season and having a better away record than at home, the Gala may just be able to win enough games to earn themselves a Grand Final Berth.
GOLDFLDS: 8 BALL FINALS CONTINUE05-Aug-2022
8 Ball action clicks up a gear tonight when the opening round of 1st Division finals matches are played. A grand final spot is up for grabs tonight in the 2nd Semi-final when defending premiers and this season’s minor premiers the Workers Club Young Guns host traditional rivals the Grand Trolley Boys. The Workers Club were the dominant side during the home and away season dropping only 2 games which included last week’s loss to the Trolley Boys in a dead rubber, while the Trolley Boys themselves were clearly the next best side. While the Trolley Boys will take some confidence out of last week’s win, most local 8 Ball experts expect the Workers Club to flex their muscle and advance straight to the big dance. In the first of 3 Derbies across the night. the Grand Voodoo and Grand Suns cross paths in the elimination 1st semi-final. Picking the winner here is a complete guess with both sides looking evenly matched, but the Voodoo’s 3-1 win / loss record against the Suns during the home and away season might be enough of a factor to see them extend their season into next week. 2nd Division finals continue tonight with 2 elimination derbies to be played. Last weeks matches saw both the Workers Club Bridesmaids and Star and Garter Pirates earn themselves a direct path into next weeks qualifying finals while the curtain was drawn for the season for the Country Club Burrs and Criterion Chooks. The Gala Warriors will go head to head with the Gala Goblins while in Boulder the Grand Grandies get a chance to redeem a disappointing performance from last week when they clash with the Grand Plan. In other 8 Ball news, this Saturday afternoon sees the last of the Association’s major events for the season when the annual mixed doubles is held at the Grand. Nominations are to be taken from 1.30pm for a 2pm start. And last but not least, the Goldfields 8 Ball Association was still celebrating the performance of Brody Conroy in Perth over the weekend, where he qualified for the WA State Team that will head to Albury NSW in October to represent the state in the National Titles. The local Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday 13th August.
GOLDFLDS: 8 BALL FINALS SET TO COMMENCE28-Jul-2022

After the completion of the home and way season, premiership favourites the Workers Club Bridesmaids were crowned minor premiers and now the top 8 teams will battle it out for the title. A rematch of last year’s 2nd Division Grand final will highlight the opening round of fixtures with the Workers Club and Gala Warriors clashing in the first of the double chance finals. Workers Club were the dominant side throughout the season with a 16-2 win / loss record and most experts expect them to win and earn themselves a weeks rest. In the 2nd double chance final, 2nd placed Grand Grandies will host the Star & Garter Pirates in a match that looks evenly balanced. In the 2 clashes during the season both sides secured 9-8 wins. Picking a winner here looks impossible but maybe the advantage of playing at home may tip the scales slightly in the Grands favour. In the elimination finals, Gala Goblins will be visited by the Criterion Chooks whose 2nd half of the season indicate they will be hard to beat while the Grand Plan and Country Club Burrs lock horns in the last of the finals matches. Tonight sees the last of the qualifying finals for the 1st Division with the finals set to commence next week. The Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday 13th August.
GOLDFLDS: WINTER 8 BALL CONTINUES20-Jul-2022

Brodie Conroy and Keenan Cigler became part of the Goldfields 8 Ball’s history after teaming up to win the MLG Goldfields Open Doubles defeating Dean Curry and Dax Wasley in the final. While both Conroy and Cigler had the distinction of being previous winners of the event, Conroy in 2021 and Cigler in 2018, this was the first occasion that they paired up together and in winning became only the 4th team in the last 14 years to have taken the trophy out of the hands of Curry and Wasley. While having to settle for the runners up mantle, the performance of Curry and Wasley to have made the last 14 consecutive grand finals is an amazing achievement. Making up the top 4 were the father and daughter combination of Brad and Chelsea Smith and Jake Conduit and Grant Weekley. Meanwhile in local competition, only two rounds remain in the 1st division home and away season and while the top 3 spots of the ladder are confirmed, the battle for the final spot between the Grand Suns and Tower is still up for grabs while 3 set of fixtures remain in the 2nd Division with the last 2 games being played next Wednesday and Thursday as part of a season ending Double header.

It has been an incredible couple of years for Conroy on the table with his 8 Ball resume going from strength to strength. The Goldfields 8 Ball Association’s 1st Division side reconfirmed their status as the number one Country Pool side in the state by successfully defending last year’s title going through the two day Country Week competition undefeated. In an amazing achievement within the side, all players had previously played 8 Ball at either a state or national level, further showing off the regions current depth of top end talent. The Grand Suns on the other hand have been the competitions quite achievers having initially finished the season in 8th position with a 5/7 win loss record. The sides met way back in round one which resulted in a comfortable victory for the Trolley Boys. While the Suns will be hitting the table this afternoon as the underdogs, a lot of 8 Ball pundits expect this to be closer than many may imagine. But while the Suns hope that their Summer Fairy-tale can continue for at least one more match, it’s virtually impossible to tip against a slick Trolley Boy outfit with expectations that they will hoist the flag for the 3rd consecutive year.
